Avila, who founded the business law firm 14 years ago with six other partners from a large Miami firm, owns three horses and loves to ride. The graduate of the University of Miami (BA) and University of Notre Dame (JD) now oversees a firm with more than 20 lawyers and an overall staff of about 50. The firm serves both domestic and international clients, with Avila handling all aspects of bank regulatory, lending, mergers and acquisitions and other transactional matters.

He cites as important issues to Florida affordable housing and sea-level rise. Among his philanthropic passions is “U.N. Women and its mission of stopping violence against women and achieving gender equality.”
